Did you know that SEO and content strategies can boost your organic traffic quickly?

Contrary to popular belief, SEO can help you increase your website traffic manyfold, within a limited period of time.

I know that because I have done it myself. I increased my website traffic by 5X in just three months.

I Changed My Content Strategy and Saw Almost Immediate Results

To start with, I made long-form content my new best friend. All of those case studies that you’ve probably read about long-form content performing better for SEO, they’re all true.

I started posting more long-form content on my blog and it helped me get more organic traffic to my website.

Take my post on, “27 of the Most Effective Social Media Marketing Tools You Need in 2019,” for example. It received over 191K impressions during a three-month period (Jan 2019-Mar 2019).

Another strategy that I implemented to grow my organic traffic was to increase the frequency of posting content.

While the quality of your content matters the most, your posting frequency also plays an important role when it comes to SEO.

The more frequently you post new content, the more often search engine crawlers will crawl your website.

Well, I already knew that, but creating and posting fresh content frequently is not always possible.

So, I used another neat trick to ensure that my blog is regularly updated with new content. And I’m going to reveal that trick in this case study.

Here’s what I did:

I started doing more content upgrades, which basically means that I took my old blog posts and updated them with new information and statistics.

This required less effort than writing fresh posts, and it also helped me improve the frequency of posting on my blog.

This is what my typical weekly content calendar looks like:

I post one piece of content a day, at the very least, and sometimes even more.

And, there’s another advantage to using this SEO strategy. These old posts get indexed by search engine crawlers again and start ranking better.

Take my post on, “31 of the Best Affiliate Marketing Tools Every Marketer Needs to Know,” for example. The post started ranking well after it was updated in March 2019 (see below).

And that’s not all.

This case study covers more link building, content syndication, and technical SEO tactics that helped me 5X my website traffic.

I Found New Ways to Earn Links and Mentions

You are probably aware of the popular ways to earn backlinks such as guest posting. Many SEO experts have been using this tactic for years to earn links to their sites.

I frequently contribute to top publications as well, but guest posting isn’t enough. I wanted to explore other avenues and find other interesting ways to earn backlinks.

So, I found other sources to get more backlinks and mentions and got over 11.6K mentions from January 2019 to March 2019.

Want to learn how I did it? Read this SEO case study to discover the strategies that helped me achieve great link building results.

One of the first things that I tried was to start participating in podcasts.

I am often invited to speak at leading industry events and on podcasts. And, in return, I get backlinks from high authority websites in my industry.

Here are some of the podcasts that I’ve been a guest on:

Being a guest on podcasts had two-fold benefits. First, it helped me enhance my personal brand and establish myself as an industry expert. Secondly, I earned good quality backlinks from high domain authority sites.

The second thing that I started focusing on more was answering questions and giving interviews. This is one of the fastest and easiest ways to earn backlinks from reputable sites.

From sending quotes for expert roundups to giving interviews, I did it all. And that helped me get mentions and links from websites like Biteable, Reputation.com, LinkedIn Marketing Blog, and TopRank Marketing.

I Promoted My Content Across Channels to Enhance Its Reach

It is not enough to create good content and expect people to just visit your website. You need to promote your content and distribute it in the right places to drive organic traffic to your website.

That’s exactly what I did to ensure that I get more social media and referral traffic.

I also shared my content on content syndication and distribution channels. This helped me reach more people than I would have on my own.

Read this case study to identify the channels I leveraged to syndicate my top-performing content.

I regularly post my content on Medium and get over 70K monthly views, just from there.

I Improved My Site’s Technical SEO to Rank for Money Keywords

Proper keyword usage and other technical SEO aspects play an important role in determining your search results rankings.

I optimized my site for many technical SEO aspects, some of which have been mentioned below. This helped me improve my search rankings and, in turn, led to an increase in the organic search traffic to my website.

Want to learn how to optimize your site for search engines? I’m going to reveal the three tactics I used for search engine optimization in this case study.

Here you go…

1. Optimized H1, H2, H3 Tags

I included primary keywords in the headings and subheadings of my blog posts.

2. Maintained a Strict Keyword Density

I follow a very strict policy to maintain a keyword density of 1%-1.5% so that my content ranks well, but I also ensure that it doesn’t look spammy.

Search engine crawlers are smart enough to easily detect keyword stuffing, owing to the numerous search algorithm updates.

In fact, keyword stuffing might actually do more harm than good because the search engines might consider such content to be of low-quality or spammy. Therefore, it is actually a much better strategy to maintain a low, but consistent keyword density for all content published on your site.

3. Used Customized Meta Descriptions

I always add custom meta descriptions for all of my blog posts and I try to keep them catchy. This helps me engage users and encourage them to click on my page in Google search results.

As a result of my technical SEO efforts, my content now ranks on the first page of Google for many money keywords that are really difficult to compete on. This is a major contributing factor in the increase in organic search traffic to my website.

I was also able to improve my search results rankings for other keywords that I targeted.

My search rankings for some keywords improved by as much as 90+ positions and my content started ranking on the first page of Google search results. This helped me increase my organic search traffic too.
